Week 8 Silhouettes

This week our 52-week project theme is Silhouettes.  I was excited about this week but also at a loss if I could get some new silhouettes captured.   I used to have a great location to photograph silhouettes but the Hillsboro, OR airport thought it needed a fence around it. Geez! Don’t they understand I have needs? Since then Silhouettes don’t seem to come to mind during my sessions.  I really need to work on that. *challenge accepted*

Due to work and weather, I had to settle for a few older images I had captured in the past. The first image (above) was from my Corona Del Mar retreat at sunrise.  This was a tough one because we were out well before the sun was.  If you know me I am NOT, I repeat NOT, a morning person.  My brain wasn’t functioning and I could barely manage my camera settings. I’m not a 100% fan of the composition of the pup but I was lucky to get anything with my brain barely functioning.

Full Sun Silhouettes

The next silhouette was taken in FULL sun on the last day of the California retreat.  You can see two of the photographers (Tara & Kim) on the right side working their magic.  This shows you can still capture silhouettes in full sun.  You just need to up your aperture (view my depth of field blog that discusses aperture) or shutter speed.

Remember me talking about the airport fence? The next image was actually taken before the perimeter fence went up several years ago.  I had probably been photographing a short while.  My high school senior wanted a silhouette of her playing her flute. I had taken a few and noticed the birds heading her way.  I waited and took the shot as soon as they were above her.  Not too bad for a newbie photographer.

SILHOUETTE

That completes my blog on silhouettes, so it’s time to move on to Tim Evans Photography, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, photographing people and pets throughout south Mississippi.
