Emotion Week 48 of the 52 week dog photography project

Welcome to week #48 of the photography project.

This weeks theme is EMOTION!

I find it interesting that emotion is the topic for this week.  The holidays are in full force and I’m always emotional during this time of year.  I think it stems from my childhood and having a birthday 5 days before Christmas.

Having a birthday so close to Christmas is the pits.

This year is an extra emotional year for me.  My oldest daughter moved into an apartment earlier this year and it will be the first time in 22 years she won’t be waking up under our roof on Christmas morning. It was bound to happen, but as a mom, you’re never ready.

Ok Ok…enough bring on the adorable images.

First up, this adorable pug named Toby.

Toby was my very first portrait session I did for the Portland Pug Rescue.  My goal was to provide some amazing images that show the personality these sweet dogs possess.  The faster we can get them in their forever home the better.    After the rescue posted his images accepting applications they couldn’t believe the response.  He got more traction just by having amazing images to showcase how handsome he was.

I was watching TV with my husband when I got the message that he was already adopted. I literally had tears in my eyes. Toby now resides in Seattle, WA where he’s spoiled rotten.

Speaking of the holiday season have you ever thought about surprising a family member with stunning images as a gift?  Well, one of my clients did.  She spoiled her sister by sneaking her two babies, Chance & Henry, to my studio while her sister was out of town.   A secret she kept for MONTHS.  You know when you’re SO excited because you have that perfect gift and you’re just itching to show the person?  That was my client.  I checked in with her often to make sure the secret was still intact.  Thankfully she held out all the way until Christmas.

Let’s just say I got a video of her opening up her gift.  Once she saw the wall art the happy tears followed.  Happy tears are the best emotion a person can have.  They are rare, but when they happen there’s no stopping them.

QUESTION for you….

You know that bond you have with your fur babies???  It’s so different from the connection you have with children or your significant other.  Dogs love you unconditionally.  I love the quote that says “I  hope to be the person my dog thinks I am”.  I’m not sure who originally said this but whoever it was hit the nail on the head.

I was read an article that listed 5 things that can lead to a happier life.  Number #2 was having a dog!  Raise your hand if you think this is true.   Just an expression of my dogs can change my mood.

I understand this is a “dog” project, but since I photograph more than just furies I wanted to include my HS Seniors. My #1 client that becomes emotional are my High School Senior Moms.  This milestone is a huge moment for the student and parent!!  The senior is excited they’re done and the mom’s are seeing that little girl that wouldn’t sleep through the night when they were just an infant in disbelief it’s the same person. When you’re going through it the days seem long, until you get to this point and they’re young adults.  All I can say is don’t blink!

My #1 advise for this post is get your portraits taken.  If not with me with someone else.  Animals are on this world far too short.  Children grow up way too fast. Invest in the legacy of you & your loved ones!

If you’re looking for that perfect gift to give someone…give the gift of a portrait session.  Freeze this moment in time so they can cherish it forever.
