2017 Portland Shamrock Run was a complete win this year.
It’s been several years since the weather has been even slightly decent for the Shamrock Run. Most years it’s pouring down rain making things very muddy and downright miserable. This year the morning was a little chilly, but the sun was shining bright. Something both spectators and runners appreciated very much.
The quantity of runners and cheerleaders during the Shamrock is a stunning sight. Spectators cheer on not just their friends and families but continue cheering complete strangers.
With Portland being such a dog-friendly city there were plenty of furry spectators as well. Right up my ally.
A new race was offered this year. Aside from the 5K stride run/walk, 5k, 8k, 15K, and the half marathon there was an option to run the 5K, recover for a while, and then run the 8K. It’s a great option for those that aren’t ready for the half but want to run more than the 8K.
The 2018 race has already been announced (3.18.18) – This will be the 40th anniversary of the Adidas Shamrock Run! You can register at the lowest prices of 2017 this week until Friday, March 24, 2017!
